Got a question? Good. Here are some answers.
If you don’t see what you’re looking for, just give Ian a shout.

  • What do you do, exactly?

Foil blocking, embossing, debossing, die-cutting, duplexing, colour edging, envelope printing, all done by hand, on traditional machines, the way it’s meant to be. If you're not sure what you need, that’s fine. Ian can talk you through it.

  • What’s the difference between embossing and debossing?

Embossing raises the surface of the paper. Debossing presses it down. Both can be done with or without foil. If you want it to feel as good as it looks, embossing is the tactile show-off.

  • What file format do you need for artwork?

Vector artwork please – PDF, AI, or EPS files with outlined text and clear indication of foil/block/trim/bleed areas. If that sounds like gobbledygook, your designer will know. And if they don’t, we’ll help you figure it out.

  • What kind of paper can you print on?

We can print on most uncoated, textured, or specialist papers; the thicker the better when it comes to foil and embossing. We regularly use G.F. Smith, Fedrigoni, and Colorplan, but if you’ve got something in mind, let’s chat.

  • Can you help me choose the right finish?

Aye. That’s what Ian’s here for. If you’re torn between gold foil and blind emboss, or not sure if colour edging will work, he’ll tell you what will look good and what won’t.

  • What’s the turnaround time?

Usually 5–10 working days, depending on the job, some quicker, some slower. Good work takes time, but we won’t faff about.

  • Do you take on short runs or one-off projects?

Yes. We do everything from a single special print to 5,000. Whether it’s a bespoke wedding invitation or a luxury business card for your studio, we’ll give it the same care and attention.

  • Do you work with designers?

All the time. Ian’s worked with branding studios, illustrators, wedding stationers and agencies who want something a bit special, and a lot more tactile.

  • Do you post stuff out?

Yes. We can courier it anywhere in the UK and beyond. If you're in Glasgow, you can swing by the workshop and see your print being made. But ask us first.

  • Can I visit the workshop?

You’re more than welcome. It’s not fancy, it’s under the arches, with tradition in the air and foil on the floor, but you’ll see the presses in action. Just give Ian a heads-up before you pop in.

  • Do you offer design services too?

Nope. Ian’s a printer through and through, but he’s happy to recommend some cracking designers he works with regularly.

  • Is everything really done by hand?

Yes. Every sheet is fed by hand. Every foil plate is set up with care. There’s no automation here, just time, pressure, heat and skill. If you’re looking for mass-produced gloss, we’re probably not for you.

No shortcuts. No gimmicks. Just print.

We do it the long way round because it’s the right way. And because it makes all the difference. You won’t find flashy filters or shiny buttons here. Just honest materials, handled with care.
